Who is responsible
budget-hotel.eu is run by R. da Silva, the Netherlands, who is the controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us via the contact form; we answer privacy questions and requests there. See also the imprint.
What we collect, why, and how long we keep it
- No accounts and no newsletter.
- Server logs. Our hosting company, mijn.host B.V. (the Netherlands), stores technical data such as your IP address, the page you asked for, your browser and the time, to keep the site safe and working. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working website. mijn.host keeps these logs for at most 12 months. We do not use them to follow you.
- Messages via the contact form. Your message, the page it is about and, only if you fill them in, your name and email address. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you. We delete a message at the latest 12 months after our last reply, or earlier if you ask. To stop spam, the form keeps a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address for one hour; it is then deleted.
- Visit statistics, only with your consent. Google Analytics, see below. Legal basis: your consent. Data kept for 2 months.
- Your cookie choice. Whether you clicked Accept or Reject is stored only in your own browser, until you change it with "Cookie settings" or clear your browser data.
Visit statistics (Google Analytics)
If you click "Accept" in the cookie bar, we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits: which pages are viewed, roughly where visitors come from (country or city), the device and browser, and which site sent you. Without your consent nothing is loaded from Google. For visitors in Europe the service is offered by Google Ireland Limited, which processes this data on our behalf as our processor. We switched off sharing this data with other Google products and services, Google signals and ad personalisation, and we do not use the data to show you ads. Analytics data is kept for 2 months. You can withdraw your consent at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page; we then remove the Analytics cookies from your browser. Read the Google privacy policy.
Who receives data
- mijn.host B.V. (hosting, the Netherlands): server logs and contact messages, as our processor.
- Google Ireland Limited (Google Analytics): only after your consent, as our processor.
- OpenFreeMap (map pieces) and Stay22 (only after you click "Show live prices"): see below; they act under their own privacy rules.
We do not sell personal data.
Data outside Europe
Google may process Analytics data outside the European Economic Area, for example in the United States. Google says that Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and that it relies on standard contractual clauses where needed. Read Google's data transfer frameworks.
The map
The interactive map on hotel pages is loaded from OpenFreeMap when you scroll to it. Your browser then asks their servers for map pieces, so they see your IP address. OpenFreeMap says it uses no cookies or tracking technologies and keeps server logs for at most 7 days, and that it may use Cloudflare to deliver the map. Read the OpenFreeMap privacy policy.
Links to Google Maps and hotel websites
The "Open in Google Maps", "Directions" and "Hotel website" buttons are normal links. Nothing is sent to those sites until you click one. After a click, their own privacy rules apply.
Live prices (Stay22)
Hotel pages have a "Show live prices" button. Nothing is loaded from Stay22 before you click it. After your click, a map from Stay22 opens inside our page; Stay22 and the booking sites you visit from it can then collect data and use cookies, for example to know that a booking came through us. Read the Stay22 privacy policy.
Ads from Google AdSense
We do not show ads yet. When we start showing ads from Google AdSense, this applies:
- Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
- We use no other ad networks. If that changes, we name them here with links to their privacy pages.
- Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland will first get a choice from a consent tool certified by Google; ads are only personalised if you agree.
Read how Google uses cookies in advertising. We update this page before ads go live.
Your rights
Under the GDPR (and the UK GDPR) you have the right to:
- ask which personal data we have about you (access) and get a copy;
- have it corrected (rectification) or deleted (erasure);
- ask us to limit how we use it (restriction);
- object to use based on our legitimate interest (server logs, contact messages);
- receive data you gave us in a usable format (portability), where this applies;
- withdraw your consent for Google Analytics at any time, without affecting earlier use;
- complain to a data protection authority: in the Netherlands the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, in the UK the ICO, or the authority where you live.
Send your request via the contact form. We answer within one month.
